Tourism Minister Presents Ministry's Performance before Foreign Diplomats

Sofia, November 10 (BTA) - Establishment of a secondary legislation framework for the operation of the tourist sector, a fully changed approach in the advertising of the country, establishment of the first on-line register of tourist attractions, development of new cultural and historical destinations, outlining of tourist regions for improvement of the marketing activities and implementation of three EU-financed projects of a total value of about 17 million leva. This is but a part of the activities, implemented by the Ministry of Tourism during the first year of its operation. The Ministry's performance was presented at a meeting of Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova with over 30 ambassadors and more than 50 representatives of the diplomatic corps here, the Ministry said.

The first stage of the reform of managing and leasing of beaches has almost been completed, said Angelkova. The second stage of the reform is prepared in parallel, as the purpose is to promote provision of additional services on the beaches, which will increase the quality of the tourist service and will reduce its price, she explained.

Angelkova singled out the status of the national resorts as a main problem in the sector. "We set up a working group including representative of the sector and, I think, that we found compromises and working solutions for their operation. Understaffing is another problem, which requires long-term settlement. A special council with representatives of the interested institutions and organizations will be set up for this purpose.
