Court Reject Majority of Petitions to Cancel Election Results in Smolyan Region

Smolyan, Southern Bulgaria, November 28 (BTA) - The Administrative Court in the southern town of Smolyan has dismissed ten petitions to cancel the results in the October 25 local elections.

A total of 14 petitions contesting the election results have been submitted by candidates for mayors and municipal councillors. Out of the ten municipalities in the region the election of mayors in three, in Devin, Banite and Nedelino, were contested.

In one instance only, the court decided to annul the results over election irregularities in Banite Municipality, where Velin Fidanov won in the second round of voting.
