Labour Minister Kalfin: All Children Should Live with Their Parents

Vienna, November 28 (BTA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Labour Minister Ivailo Kalfin met with Austrian Minister for Family and Youth Sophie Karmasin, Kalfin's Ministry said. The Labour Minister is paying a visit to Austria.

Kalfin said that the Bulgarian Labour Ministry is taking steps to create an environment where all children will live with their parents. He familiarized his Austrian counterpart with measures already taken to assist working parents, including flexible working hours
and an upcoming launch of social services vouchers.

For her part, Karmasin voiced readiness to assistance and outline efficient and innovative practices which have proved effective in developing a sustainable system for child rearing and assistance for working parents in Austria.

The two ministers discussed a statement by Austrian foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, who called for a cut of the family allowance for EU citizens whose children live in poorer countries of origin.

Kalfin disagreed with the proposal and the two ministers concurred that it is unacceptable to consider such a measure outside the whole package to improve conditions for working migrants within the EU.
