Customs Officials Seize 11 Kg of Heroin at Kapitan Andreevo Border Checkpoint
Haskovo, Southeastern Bulgaria, December 1 (BTA) - Inspectors from the Kapitan Andreevo border control checkpoint seized around 11 kg of heroin hidden inside a pillow, the customs in Svilengrad said Tuesday.
The heroin was found in a car with Romanian registration driven by a Turkish national, who was travelling from Turkey to Romania together with a woman and a small child. At the time of the check, the child was sleeping in the back seat on the pillow in question. When they opened it, the customs officials found 20 packages full of a grey powdery substance weighing 10.748 kg, which tested positive for heroin.
This amount of heroin costs nearly 1 million leva, the customs specified.
The Turkish driver was detained and his car was seized. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecution Office.
