Sofia, August 2 (BTA) - Between January 1 and July 30, the production and consumption of electricity increased year-on-year, according to data by Bulgaria's Electricity System Operator.

Electricity production went up by 3.74 per cent, whereas consumption grew to 23,382,149 MWh from 21,976,884MWh in 2016.

Due to a recent heatwave electricity consumption increased by 6.3 per cent, peaking to 4,500-plus MW on July 31.

RES production grew during the said period, accounting for 9.91 per cent of electricity transmitted through the power grid. RES consumption increased to 748,138 MWh from 680,697 MWh in the first seven months of the year.

RES electricity grew by 3.37 per cent along the distribution grid too. Biomass electricity consumption went up by 10.27 per cent, and wind electricity by 8.25 per cent. Meanwhile, consumption of photovoltaic energy went down by 0.42 per cent.

Hydroelectricity decreased by 29.46 per cent.
