site.btaFlu Outbreak in Duck Farm

Dobrich, Northeastern Bulgaria, October 20 (BTA) - All 11,000 ducks on a farm in the village of Stefanovo near Dobrich will be destroyed due to an outbreak of type A flu.

The area has been cordoned off, the regional epizootic commission said on Thursday. Trade in, and transport of, birds and hatching eggs are banned within a 10-km range of the farm. Farmers have been warned to pen in animals and to store feed in closed premises. Food safety officers are taking preventive measures to stop the virus from spreading.
