Philadelphia, October 22 (BTA) - The Secretary General of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry, Chief Commissioner Mladen Marinov, and the Director of the National Police General Directorate, Chief Commissioner Hristo Terziiski, are taking part in the 124th Annual Conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 21-24, Marinov's Ministry said in a press release on Sunday.

A number of high-level working meetings with officials of various US law-enforcement agencies are planned during the event.

The Bulgarian delegation held a series of bilateral meetings at the Philadelphia Division of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and with officials of the justice system in the city.

At the meeting, the Bulgarian guests were briefed on the status of international drug smuggling and distribution in the states of Pennsylvania and Delaware. The sides considered joint projects in progress and future shared initiatives for combating cross-border narcotics trafficking and suppressing the arrival of new high-risk drugs into Bulgaria, Europe and America.

Best practices of building strategies for the proactive frustration of new trends in narcotics trafficking and distribution were discussed, along with ways to detect and deter corrupt practices among law enforcers directly involved in the fight against drug crime. The hosts presented successful working models for coordination of the joint efforts of various government institutions in the investigation of drug-related offences.

Future joint actions against organized international crime were planned as a result of the meeting held.
