Sofia, October 29 (BTA) - The Ministry in charge of the Bulgarian EU Presidency which starts in 2018 issued a position Sunday where it says that "playing with the issue of the EU Presidency as a topic of party congresses regretfully shows the total absence of national responsibility and boils down to an attempt to conceal internal party problems". "The EU Presidency does not belong to this or that party. It is a national cause which should unite the efforts of everyone," the position reads. It was issued in response to statements at the congress of the Bulgarian Socialist Party on Sunday, according to which "the government has reduce the EU Presidency to mere technical preparations, and not policy-making".

The position sets forth in detail the priorities of the Bulgarian EU Presidency and the work for them.

"History remembers EU Presidencies during which the opposition provoked antagonism among parties, political instability and elections during the term of the Presidency. However, these were not the successful examples for the countries holding the EU Presidency," the position says.

The document urges for unity. "Let us prove that unity will be the power and the wisdom of Bulgaria's EU Presidency," reads the position.
