Pays Visit to Bulgaria

Sofia, November 12 (BTA) - European Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Elzbieta Bienkowska met with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov here on Monday during her working visit to Bulgaria. The two discussed transport and digital coherence in the Western Balkan countries as an integral part of their EU path, the Government's press service reported.

Bienkowska noted that better coherence will lead to increased competitive power and better business environment in the Western Balkans, as well as in the whole of Europe.

The Commissioner congratulated Borissov and Bulgaria on their contribution to the endorsement of the Western Balkans topic on the EU agenda. She also said that expanding the EU's borders holds as many risks as it offers opportunities.

Noting that guaranteeing the security of EU citizens is a challenge, Bienkowska and Borissov welcomed the establishment of a European Defence Fund and the European Defence Industrial Development Programme.

"Innovations are crucial for the development of a European defence industry, which gives additional weight to your portfolio," said Borissov in a discussion with Bienkowska on the future strategy of the EU industrial policy. LY/TH
