Sofia, January 28 (BTA) - Foreign tourists paid over 9,273,000 visits to Bulgaria in 2018, the Bulgarian Tourism Ministry said on Monday. The National Statistical Institute reported a 4.4 per cent growth in comparison with 2017.

Most foreigners who visited Bulgaria were from Romania, with a total of 1,377,000 visits, up 20.9 per cent from 2017, followed by Greece, with 1,116,000 visits, Germany, with over 850,000 visits, Turkey, with over 625,000 visits, Macedonia, with nearly 560,000 visits, and Russia, with over 511,000 visits.

In 2018, journeys from Poland exceeded 425,000 (up by 7.9 per cent), followed by Serbia, with 421,000 visits (up by 7 per cent), the United Kingdom, with 390,000 visits (up by 15.2 per cent), and Ukraine, with 379,000 visits (up by 24.4 per cent). Visits from other countries increased, too, such as Israel (by 17.3 per cent), Moldova (by 11.3 per cent), Czechia (by 6 per cent), and France (by 3.3 per cent). LI/TH
