site.btaHealth Minister Kostadin Angelov: Rumors that Checkpoints are Returning are Blatant Lies

August 15 (BTA) - Minister of Health Prof. Kostadin Angelov refuted the rumors that checkpoints and restrictions will be reintroduced in Bulgaria to curb the spread of COVID-19, describing them as "blatant lies". Visiting the town of Kyustendil on Saturday, he said that the Ministry has no intentions of isolating the state or its settlements, nor to introduce once again checkpoints for traffic. He added that the web sites disseminating such information are doing so purposefully, playing on people's fears.

The Health Minister said that the town of Dobrich in the northeast is the most problematic area at the moment, where patients cannot be isolated properly and there are not enough experts on infectious diseases. Angelov said that the local hospital is expecting new recruits, and the situation is under control.

After a visit to the hospital in Kyustendil, the Health Minister announced that the entire region has enough hospital beds, staff and protection equipment.

He also said that at both the border checkpoints in Gyueshevo (on the border with North Macedonia) and Oltomantsi (on the Serbian border), there are eight-member teams of the Regional Health Inspectorate working around the clock.
