August 27 (BTA) - Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairperson Stefka Stoeva tendered her resignation during a CEC meeting on Thursday, citing personal reasons, the CEC reported.

The National Assembly will take a vote on Stoeva's resignation next week.

Her move comes after she objected to a proposed amendment to the Election Code aimed to make the CEC solely responsible for the acquisition of voting machines for political elections.

Stoeva was elected CEC Chairperson in March 2019. A former constitutional judge, she was the only candidate for the top post in the Commission, nominated by the ruling GERB party. NV/VE
