site.bta4,843 PCR Tests Confirm 263 New COVID-19 Cases, Bringing Bulgaria's Total to 21,096

October 2 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 21,096 after 4,843 PCR tests identified 263 new infections in the 24 hours until Thursday midnight, according to data posted on www.coronavirus.bg.

Sofia City Region tops the list of new cases with 54 positive tests, followed by Varna Region with 32, Blagoevgrad Region with 24, and Plovdiv Region with 22.

A total of 534,135 PCR tests have been performed since the first cases were diagnosed on March 8.

The active cases are 5,477. The newly infected persons include 13 medical staff (5 doctors, 2 nurses, 3 orderlies, 1 feldsher and 2 other), and this category now totals 1,165.

Currently, the hospitalized patients number 857, including 47 in intensive care.

Another 153 COVID-19 patients have recovered over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 14,787.

Seven more fatalities were reported, and the death toll now totals 832. RI/LG
