November 4 (BTA) - The number of new coronavirus infections and deaths in Bulgaria reached a new high on Wednesday, according to the national coronavirus portal (www.coronavirus.bg). A total of 11,066 PCR tests confirmed 4,041 cases in the 24 hours until midnight Wednesday. The positivity rate spiked to 36.5 per cent.

The number of cases in this country since the start of the pandemic now totals 60,537. A total of 746,392 PCR tests have been done. The active cases stand at 37,581.

The Wednesday death toll is 63 adding to a total of 1,412 since the start of the pandemic.

The recoveries were 507 for Wednesday, adding up to a total of 21,544.

A total of 2,922 patients are in hospital, including 210 in intensive care units.

The coronavirus cases among medical personnel number 2,542, including 935 doctors and 829 nurses.

The vast majority of new infections are in Sofia (1,619), followed by Plovdiv (337) and Varna (203). Sofia has had the highest morbidity rate throughout the pandemic with 20,056, followed again by Plovdiv (5,283) and then Blagoevgrad (4,253).
