October 26 (BTA) - The Prison Officers' Union has announced a stand-by for possible protests. The Union wrote in a letter to President Rumen Radev and caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev that the proposed state budget scheme for 2022 does not stipulate a wage increase in the sector.

The Union described this as a sign of irresponsibility. It warned of social tension among prison officers and problems with the functioning of prisons, detention facilities and judicial buildings. It recalled that it has talked with the Justice Ministry about the need to raise wages.

"Prison employees insist that the competent institutions should initiate civilized negotiations as soon as possible," the Union said. It expects that the talks will lead to a responsible and productive solution, which has not happened so far due to an inability to talk with the Justice Minister. VE
