Energy Regulator: No New Electricity Price Increase Is Envisaged For Now


Sofia, November 5 (BTA) - State Energy and Water Regulatory
Commission (SEWRC) chair Svetla Todorova told journalists on
Wednesday that the October increase of electricity price was the
 maximum that the regulator should do for now. Todorova was
approached how the regulator plans to offset the deficit in the
sector.

Todorova said that other institutions may take steps to seek new
 mechanisms for alleviating prices, among them legislative
changes concerning RES facilities. "Now we can only observe the
existing legislation, according to which all RES energy should
be purchased," said Todorova. Another option is to launch
negotiations between the National Electric Company (NEK) and two
 US-owned thermal power plants Maritsa East 1 and Maritsa East 3
 to renegotiate long-term purchase agreements.
