Led by Teams of 14-16 Prosecutors and Investigators -
ICC Prosecutor Bensouda
Sofia, November 21 (BTA) - The International Criminal Court's
(ICC) Office of the Prosecutor is composed of three divisions -
the Investigations Division, the Prosecutions Division, the
Jurisdiction, Complementarity and Cooperation Division. The
optimal number of investigators should be 14-16 persons,
however, due to many circumstances, the ICC's teams rarely
exceed 8-9 people, the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office quoted the
Prosecutor of the ICC, Fatou Bensouda, as saying here on Friday.
Bensouda, the International Criminal Court President Song
Sang-Hyun and Bulgarian Judge Ekaterina Trendafilova are on a
three-day official visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of
Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov. The guests met with
Tsatsarov and his deputies at the Palace of Justice building in
Sofia.
Song and Bensouda said that high priority issues are the hiring
of children under 15 for military action, the protection of
children affected by armed conflicts, crimes based on race and
gender, as well as crimes against historical buildings.
As a party to the Rome Statute, Bulgaria will provide assistance
for the ICC's actions, if such is required and is in Bulgaria's
competence, Tsatsarov and his deputies said during the meeting.
