Political Scientist Ognyan Minchev Sees Convincing Concentration of Municipal Power in GERB's Hands

Sofia, November 1 (BTA) - Political scientist Ognyan Minchev sees a convincing concentration of municipal power in GERB's hands, which in his words, completes the power pyramid in the country with a party that is much bigger and more powerful than the rest. If this trend in the development of the Bulgarian party system continues, there will be a larger concentration of power resources in GERB's structures and its presence in state institutions, Minchev said.

Political scientist Antoniy Todorov described the election results achieved by GERB's candidates as a "GERB wave". His colleague Purvan Simeonov, however, commented that he does not see a "wave", adding that GERB has become "party by default" and "by definition". However calculated, the election results for GERB are more than twice bigger than those achieved by the Socialists. It is crucial to wait for the final results in the regional cities in order to see if the Bulgarian Socialist Party will have a mayor, because with their third place in Sofia and without a regional capital mayor, the party will not be the same, he said.

Journalist Petko Georgiev described on Bulgarian National Television the local election with the words "stabilization" and "collapse". He sees a stabilization of the governing coalition and a collapse of the election legislation and administration.
