Bavarian Interior Minister Herrmann Thanks Bulgaria for Efforts to Guard EU External Borders

November 21 (BTA) - "I thank for the efforts that Bulgaria is making to guard and protect Europe's external borders and security," Bavarian Interior, Building and Transport Minister Joachim Herrmann said here on Saturday during a session with GERB Party Deputy Chairman and GERB Floor Leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

The two conferred within the framework of the ongoing congress of the German Christian Social Union (CSU). Hermann commended highly Tsvetanov performance as deputy prime minister and interior minister (2009-2013) and thanked him for the teamwork between the Bulgarian and the Bavarian services.

The Bavarian Interior Minister said that he will visit Bulgaria in December 2015 together with Bavarian Minister President Horst Seehofer, and will be yet again in Sofia in January 2016 for the signing of a Memorandum on Police Cooperation between Bulgaria and Bavaria.

Again within the framework of the CSU congress, Tsvetanov conferred with Volker Kauder, Floor Leader of the ruling CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag. The two outlines specific measures for broader cooperation between the CSU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the Bundestag and the GERB Parliamentary Group in the Bulgarian National Assembly. One step in this direction is forming joint working groups on internal security and justice and on economy and energy.

Tsvetanov also held talks with Hans-Peter Friedrich, a former federal interior minister of Germany and incumbent Deputy Floor Leader of the CSU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the Bundestag. Friedrich conveyed congratulations to Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on the latest in a series of election victories of GERB. The two discussed questions concerning the refugee wave in Europe and EU border management. The German politician stressed that the Bulgarian authorities guard the Union's borders up to all Schengen standards, but he is concerned by the situation in other countries in the region.
