Bulgarian and Macedonian Justice Ministers Meet

Sofia, November 24 (BTA) - Bulgarian Justice Minister Hristo Ivanov met with Macedonian Justice Minister Adnan Jashari in Sofia on November 23 to discuss bilateral cooperation and the judicial reforms in their countries, Ivanov's ministry reported in a press release.

Jashari updated his host on the organization of the judicial bodies in Macedonia and the process of amending the country's Constitution in the part concerning the judiciary. He showed interest in the way the independence of Bulgarian judges is regulated and the realization of their disciplinary responsibility, as well as the system of oversight of notaries, private enforcement agents and mediators.

For his part, Ivanov briefed Jashari on the main highlights in the Bulgarian Constitution amendment bill, which is due for a second-reading vote in the National Assembly.

The two justice ministers considered signing an agreement on cooperation in criminal law and extradition. Ivanov noted the good cooperation between the Bulgarian National Institute of Justice and the Macedonian Academy for Judges and Public Prosecutors.
