Parliament Elects Members of  Fiscal Council, BSP Leaves Plenary Chamber in Disagreement

Sofia, November 25 (BTA) - The National Assembly Wednesday elected the five members of the Fiscal Council. The MPs of BSP-Left Bulgaria left the plenary chamber in disagreement with the vote, after the parliamentary group's candidate was not supported by the majority.

The candidate nominated by GERB, Boris Grozdanov, was elected Fiscal Council Chairman with 119 votes in favour and 8 abstentions. The other candidate for the post - Lyubomir Tsanov nominated by the Reformist Bloc - received 26 votes in favour, 9 against and 76 abstentions, thus remaining only a Fiscal Council member.

The other members of the Fiscal Council are Grigoriy Vazov, nominated by the Patriotic Front and elected with 132 votes in favour, Dora Andreeva of the Bulgarian Democratic Centre who received 101 votes in favour, and Yunal Tasim, nominated by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and elected with 113 votes in favour.

The five members swore in for a term of six years.

The majority rejected the nominees of the Reformist Bloc and of BSP-Left Bulgaria, Georgi Ganev and Dimiter Ivanov, respectively.

Before the Socialist MPs left the plenary chamber, Yanaki Stoilov told Parliament that the Fiscal Council re-creates the majority in the National Assembly of GERB, the Reformist Bloc, the Patriotic Front and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, thus turning it into a political instrument. According to the Fiscal Council Act, the Council has to be an independent body that monitors the national budget's implementation, elaborates analyses and advice, and creates prerequisites for increasing the budget transparency and publicity. This cannot happen without representatives of the opposition on the Fiscal Council, the Socialist MP said.
