President Unveils 13th Bulgarian Christmas Campaign

Sofia, December 1 (BTA) - President Rosen Plevneliev on Tuesday unveiled the 13th edition of the Bulgarian Christmas charity campaign at Sofia's Pirogov Emergency Hospital. This year the campaign will raise money to purchase new equipment for children's intensive care units in addition to assisting children's treatment.

The President said that the Bulgarian Christmas campaign is a cause, when solidarity and empathy begin to change lives. Plevneliev thanked the thousands of Bulgarians who donate to the campaign.

Pirogov Director Stoyan Milanov said that over 5,000 children are admitted in Pirogov each year. Of these, around 600 go through intensive care. Milanov said that intensive care treatment requires up-to-date equipment and skilled doctors.

The previous campaign raised nearly 2 million leva and helped the treatment of over 500 children with chronic diseases. In 12 years, nearly 3,000 children have been given a better life owing to the campaign.
