Kozloduy N-Plant's Service Life May Be Extended by at Least 30 Years

Sofia, December 4 (BTA) - "The Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant is operated professionally and its service life can be extended by at least 30 more years," the representative office of ROSATOM in Bulgaria told BTA, quoting Rusatom International Network Vice President for Central Europe Vadim Titov, who is also responsible for the market in Bulgaria. Rusatom International Network is part of the ROSATOM Group.

According to Titov, the electricity price is a telltale sign of the presence of nuclear generating capacities in a country's energy mix. "In Europe, the price of electricity in Bulgaria seems fabulously low, and this is so thanks to the fact that you have the Kozloduy N-Plant as a base load," Titov commented.

The Rusatom International Network executive expressed the opinion that Kozloduy is in a very good condition and that all experts working at the plant are very highly trained. In his words, the modernization project for Kozloduy Unit 5, which is being implemented by ROSATOM, is proceeding in full conformity with requirements and in keeping with the time schedules.

Titov hopes that the Russian company will be selected for the implementation of the modernization project for Kozloduy Unit 6 as well.

He pointed out that Russia has been supplying nuclear fuel for the Kozloduy N-Plant for several decades now and that the TVEL Fuel Company (part of the ROSATOM Group) invests 30 million euro annually in a steady effort to improve the parameters of the fuels and, in cooperation with its Bulgarian customers, works for an increase of the effectiveness of the N-plant units.
