Agreements Signed for Connecting Europe Financing for Two Railway and One Waterway Projects in Bulgaria

Sofia, December 5 (BTA) - The European Commission has signed agreements for grant financing for two railway and one waterway projects in Bulgaria under the Connecting Europe Facility, the Transport Ministry in Sofia said Saturday.

The projects were approved following the first call to proposals for funding under Connecting Europe.

The railway projects will modernize the Sofia-Volouyak and Sofia-Elin Pelin services. The modernization works will be performed by the National Railway Infrastructure Company. Bulgaria will receive 76.5 million euro for the first project , which is 73 per cent of the total value of the project, and 58 million euro for the second (85 per cent of the works' value).

The grant for the third project, FAIRway Danube, stands at 6 million leva which is 85 per cent of the total value. The money will be spent for a pilot study for improving navigation conditions on the Danube, for which purpose two vessels will measure and mark the waterway in the Bulgarian stretch of the river. It is a joint project including Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. The Bulgarian participant is the Executive Agency for Danube Waterway Study and Maintenance.
