Parliament Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Brussels

Sofia, March 23 (BTA) - "We, the national representatives of the 43rd National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, strongly condemn this serial barbarian act. We believe that these attacks reveal hatred, tremendous cruelty and violence towards civilians in Europe and the rest of the world," says a declaration of the National Assembly, read in Parliament by Deputy Chair Kiril Tsochev on Wednesday. The declaration has been prompted by the March 22 bombings in Brussels.

The document further describes the terrorist acts as attacks against freedom and peace. "Such monstrous violence against innocent citizens may not be justified. What is happening is incompatible with the values of modern Europe having the Belgian capital as one of its symbols."

"We should be more decisive and uncompromising in the fight against terrorism," the Bulgarian MPs also say. They voice confidence that Europe will find the best way to protect freedom and remain a pillar of the European civilization, values, moral and culture.

Offering condolences to the bereaved families and solidarity with the people of Belgium, the MPs observed a minute of silence for the victims.
