Miners Block Busy Resort Road over Unpaid Wages

Bourgas, on the Black Sea, September 7 (BTA) - Nearly 100 miners from the Cherno More mine protested Wednesday over unpaid wages. The mine stopped working in April and the owner filed for bankruptcy.

Nearly 500 workers were laid off. Two-hundred and forty of them are still waiting to be paid wages due to them, along with compensations promised by the management.

Some of the protesters said that their homes will be auctioned off. They said they received letters from the National Revenue Agency that the property of the failed mine will be sold out. Some 80 people will be left to live on the street, the protesters said. Most of the former miners are willing to buy their homes.

The protest started in front of the mine and later moved to a busy road to the Sunny Beach resort and the Sarafovo Airport.
