Disabled Child Benefits to Increase Substantially from January 1, 2017

Sofia, December 30 (BTA) - Under amendments to the Integration of Persons with Disabilities Act and the Family Allowances for Children Act, in force as from January 1, 2017, a new type of monthly benefit will be available for children with permanent disabilities to help their raising in a family environment and their social inclusion, the Agency for Social Assistance said.

So far, the monthly supplement for a permanently disabled child was 240 leva. As from next year, the amount of the monthly benefit will be increased and differentiated depending on the extent of disability or the degree of reduced working capacity.

For 2017, the parents or adoptive parents of a child with permanent disabilities will get a monthly allowance ranging from 350 to 930 leva.

The amount of the additional lump-sum allowance for a child with 50 per cent and over 50 per cent permanent disabilities, paid until the child's second birthday, remains unchanged. Entitlement of a social integration supplement is limited to persons with permanent disabilities aged over 18.
