Court Orders Prosecution Service to Pay Financial Supervision Commission ex-Deputy Chief Rankova
LV 48,000 in Compensations

Sofia, January 10 (BTA) - A court has ordered the prosecution service to pay the former deputy chief of the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC), Dimana Rankova, 48,000 leva in compensation for a probe against her, plus 6,400 leva in legal fees and interest, reports "Sega" and other media outlets on Tuesday.

Rankova won a case against the prosecution magistracy under the Liability of the State Act after Sofia City Court found that she was unlawfully probed between February 2010 and July 2014 for a grave premeditated offence and that the probe caused her serious non-pecuniary damage.

Rankova was accused for clearing two transactions with stocks in the summer of 2006, which were suspected of being able to cause considerable detriment. The prosecutors claimed that the purpose was to secure gains for a third party.

Rankova resigned from her FSC office after she was charged.

Sofia City Court twice closed the case for lack of offence - and so did an appellate court - but a prosecutor from the Supreme Cassation Prosecution Office issued persistent orders to keep up the charges.

At the time of the second such order, Rankova was an advisor to the President and had to leave this office as well as she felt compromised.

An indictment against her was not submitted to the court for years and Rankova used her right to demand that the case be entered into court or be closed. As a result of this, her case reached the court in July 2014.
