Vice President Yotova: 'We Need Comprehensive New Policy in Migration Field'

Sofia, March 20 (BTA) - "We need a comprehensive new policy in the field of migration and refuges," Vice President Iliyana Yotova said. She was speaking at Monday's discussion titled "60 Years after Rome: Building Together European Democracy". The event was organized by the European Movement and the European Union of Federalists, in conjunction with the Information Office of the European Parliament in Bulgaria.

The gravest problem concerning European citizens is security, ranging from social and economic issues and financial issues through survival and fighting poverty, to the crisis related to migration flows, Yotova said.

Good ideas found a relatively quick solution by European institutions but did not provide the expected results, beginning with the still ineffective policy of quota distribution of refugees and migrants and ending with the agreement with Turkey, she commented.

This agreement did not work in the way it was expected to but also actually blocked bilateral agreements. Bulgaria and Greece have bilateral agreements for readmission of citizens of third countries, but at this point only six of 800 applications from Bulgaria have been processed, Yotova said.
