PM Borissov Talks to European Commission President Juncker, Commits Government to Name Shortly Bulgarian Candidate for EU Commissioner
Sofia, May 5 (BTA) - In a telephone conversation with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on Friday, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker insisted that the Bulgarian Government come up with a candidate for member of the European Commission within the shortest possible time.
Borissov assumed a commitment that the nomination will be considered at the first cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Bulgaria has been without a representative in the European Commission since January 2017, when Commission Vice President Kristalina Georgieva left Brussels for a job with the World Bank.
The EC President expressed his conviction that, under Prime Minister Borissov, Bulgaria will continue to follow unswervingly its European road. He stressed Bulgaria's great responsibility as a future holder of the EU Council Presidency.
Borissov noted that, just as before, he will continue to be guided by Bulgarian citizens' interests and, at the same time, will back the Europewide decisions on EU prosperity. He confirmed that organizing and conducting the Bulgarian Presidency is a priority for his Government.
The Prime Minister also stressed other policies important for the work of the Government, which will ensure financial discipline, economic growth and an improvement of the quality of life for people in Bulgaria.
