Sofia, August 31 (BTA) - Foreign direct investments (FDI) in the non-financial sector in 2016 increased by 1.4 per cent on year to 23,491 million euro, according to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute, released on Thursday.

Anastas Troianski, head of the Institute's Business Statistics Directorate, told a news conference that FDI in industry was largest at 10,139 million euro, followed by services with 5,887 million euro. The two sectors account for 68.2 per cent of FDI in 2016, up 1.3 percentage points from 2015. Construction attracted 608 million euro in FDI, 19.4 per cent less than in 2015.

The NSI received annual reports for 2016 from 335,802 non-financial enterprises. They generated 137,139 million leva of production value and 48,566 million leva of value added at factor cost, and employed 1,966,554 persons. Value added at factor cost includes the production value, reduced by the amount of the excise duties and operating expenses, excluding those for personnel and for depreciation, and increased by the income from financing.

At 39.7 per cent, industry generated the largest value added at factor cost generated by the non-financial enterprises. Services employed the largest share, 34.2 per cent, of the workforce of the non-financial enterprises.

Industrial enterprises accounted for 48.4 per cent of the production value generated by non-financial enterprises, followed by services (27.9 per cent), wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (15.3 per cent) and construction (8.4 per cent).
