Sofia, September 29 (BTA) - Anton Todorov of GERB confirmed here in Parliament on Friday that he has accepted to run for chair of the so called Secret-police Files Commission, which is responsible for disclosing and announcing affiliation of Bulgarian citizens to the Communist-era State Security and Military Intelligence services.

Asked how he had voted for Defence Minister Krassimir Karakachanov, who is known to have been an agent of the former State Security service, Todorov said he voted in his favour. There is a coalition agreement, he said, explaining that he is committed to his party, because of which he is an MP, and is obliged to follow the decisions.

Asked whether he will do GERB's bidding as chair of the Commission, Todorov said he would not, because if elected he will no longer be a GERB MP. He added that he will work with a team of nine people, who will be representatives of other parliamentary forces.

GERB will not support the Socialists' proposal to close the Secret-police Files Commission and replace it by a national memory institute, GERB MPs said at a news conference, supported by representatives of victims of Communist repressions.

GERB MP Toma Bikov said that the Commission has managed to complete a large portion of its work over the last two terms and must continue examining the past.
