site.btaNational Radio Hosts 14th EBU Legal and Public Affairs Assembly

Sofia, October 12 (BTA) - Deputy Culture Minister Roumen Dimitrov addressed on Thursday the delegates to the 14th Legal and Public Affairs Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) which opened here. Bulgaria will be the centre of dialogue and the achievement of a reasonable compromise protecting the objectives of the common digital market, of the protection of copyright and neighboring rights and contractual freedom, Dimitrov said at the opening. The Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) is hosting the two-day forum with the participation of 80 delegates by 42 media organisations from 28 countries.

The participants will receive updates on the latest legislative developments in the EU Digital Single Market with a highlight on the forthcoming implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation. A special focus on governance of PSM organizations will offer Members the opportunity to hear from experts who will share their experiences and insights on how organizations can adapt in a fast-changing media ecosystem.

The Assembly meets twice a year, bringing together Members' legal advisors and public affairs experts. It approves the annual priorities, objectives, goals, official positions and action plans in the legal and public affairs sector. It also provides a platform for exchanging and sharing information and expertise. The Assembly is open to Members and Associates of the EBU.

BNR Director General Alexander Velev said at the opening that digitization is the future of the radio. Everything possible will be done to have a digital radio in Bulgaria too, he added.
