site.btaElectricity Production, Consumption Continue to Drop, Electricity System Operator Data Show

Sofia, May 29 (BTA) - Production of electricity in the period from January 1, 2018 to May 20, 2018 decreased by 4.61 per cent to 17,309,160 MWh, compared to the like period in 2017, data of the Electricity System Operator show.

Consumption of electricity for the same period decreased by 6.49 per cent to 15,561,310 MWh year-on-year.

Exports of electricity increased by 16.16 per cent to 1,747,850 MWh year-on-year.

Electricity generated by the Kozloduy nuclear power plant, and the thermo-electric plants Maritsa East 2, AES Gulubovo and ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 decreased by 10.71 per cent to 13,919,716 MWh year-on-year.

The share of power from renewable energy sources in the transmission grid decreased by 2,10 percentage points to 503,257 MWh year-on-year.

Wind turbines generated 1.21 per cent less power, or 302,079 MWh, year-on-year, while the drop in the electricity generated by photovoltaic and biomass-fuelled power facilities was 1.97 per cent and 6.46 percentage points respectively.

In the electricity-distribution grid the share of power from renewable energy sources decreased by 11.71 per cent to 631,682 MWh.

In the first quarter of 2018 hydro-electric plants generated 69.30 per cent more power than in the like period of 2017.
