Sofia, July 20 (BTA) - Parliament elected Decho Dechev Governor of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) by a vote of 124 in favour, with one abstention.

Dechev left his post as the executive director of Sofia's Ivan Rilski hospital to replace Kamen Plochev until the end of his term in March 2020. He was the only candidate.

Plochev's credentials were terminated in June on the grounds that due to ill health he had been unable to perform his duties for three months and would be unable to resume work for at least another month.

In February, Health Minister Kiril Ananiev called on Plochev to resign after he asked for an update of the NHIF's budget. The two then clashed over the amount of debt to European health insurance funds.
