This year Bulgaria will participate for the first time at a UN Climate Change Conference with a delegation larger than three people, Environment Minister Julian Popov said here on Monday. COP 28 will take place from November 30 to December 12 in Dubai. Almost 200 people will be part of the Bulgarian delegation, Popov noted.

The delegation will include government officials as well as representatives of Bulgarian industry - from small and medium-sized enterprises, the start-up sector and heavy industry, which is leading the way in terms of climate responsibility.

Popov took part in an information event "Responsible Business Conduct" organized by representatives of the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterpirses (EASME) in its capacity as the Bulgarian National Contact Point (NCP) for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

"Bulgarian metallurgy is cleaner than German. We need to know these things, because it does not seem to be very clear," Popov added. "Keep an eye on our presence at COP28 because we will make a big impression and this participation will be a benchmark for the development of Bulgarian business and industry," he added.

"The OECD is entered in steps and these steps are called instruments. In the case of environment and water, they are 66. Bulgaria has taken action in 50 of them and representatives of the Ministry will be heard on eight other instruments on November 22," Popov stated.

He pointed out that the budget will probably have to allocate between BGN 5-6 billion for the land recultivation of the coal sites, from which coal has been drawn for decades to produce electricity.
