A monument to Bulgarian freedom fighter Vasil Levski was unveiled here on Wednesday by Bulgarian Vice President Iliana Iotova and Moldovan Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan. Attending the ceremony were Moldova's President Maia Sandu, Taraclia Region Chairperson Ivan Paslar, Bulgarian Consul in Taraclia Lyubomir Dimov, Bulgarian Ambassador in Chisinau Maya Dobreva, and President of the Scientific Society of Bulgarians in Moldova Ivan Duminika.

In her address, Iotova told the Bulgarians in Taraclia that the Moldovan authorities have assured her the administrative integrity of Taraclia District will be preserved. Also, an agreement will be signed very soon to make Gregory Tsamblak State University of Taraclia a branch of Angel Kanchev University of Ruse.

Sandu said that no decision had been taken on an administrative territorial reform in Moldova. That does not mean such a reform is not needed, but the decision itself is yet to be made, she specified. If such a decision is taken, Taraclia District will not be affected in any way. "No such danger exists at all; we want to join the European family and we want to observe the rights of all minorities in Moldova," the President noted. The agreement allowing Gregory Tsamblak State University of Taraclia to receive assistance from the University of Ruse is to be signed later on Wednesday, Sandu also said.
