A set of music books for 2nd to 8th school grade, published in Bulgarian, were presented at the BTA press club in Taraclia, the centre of the Bulgarian community in Moldova. The books were written by music teachers Kiril Kirilov and Vitalii Todorov, who were posted to Moldova by the Education and Science Ministry.

The authors told Moldovan and Bulgarian colleagues about the concept and the advantages of the new schoolbooks and the innovative approaches used in compiling them. They said they tried to keep the content close to the standards of both the Moldovan and the Bulgarian education systems. The books are intended to aid music teachers in schools where ethnic Bulgarian students predominate.

Tihomir Borissov, a Bulgarian music teacher in Moldova, said: "Regrettably, there are not many publications like these in Moldova. Local schoolbooks have very little music content for any minority. What the authors have done will be very useful not only to music teachers but to the whole Bulgarian community in Moldova."

Teachers liked the fact that the new books are illustrated and have QR codes to give users a quick listen to the music discussed. The drawings were made by Evgeni Zalataryov, a painter from Taraclia.

The BGN 19,700 project was supported by the Development Aid Programme of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry and implemented in collaboration with a Moldovan NGO called Aici Si Acum. The set has a print run of 2,500 copies, which will be donated to Moldovan schools where Bulgarian is taught as a mother tongue.
