The Bulgarian village of Petrivsk in Tarutyne Municipality, Bolhrad District, is participating in an annual competition for Best Developed Settlement in Odesa Oblast. A commission visited the village recently.

The commission checked on the activities of the local Petrostal company, which is responsible for the maintenance of sanitary conditions, water supply and other important public works in the village. They also visited the walk-in clinic and the local cultural centre.

The students at Petrivskyi Lyceum welcomed the commission with a concert, after which it inspected the bomb shelter in the school, renovated by local sponsors and with the help of teachers and parents. The commission also inspected the monument to the Bulgarian settlers who founded the village and the village cemetery.

Petrivsk Mayor Sergey Bugor told BTA: "We participate in the regional competition to showcase the village's achievements and share experience. If we win, the village will get additional resources for public works."

The Bessarabian village of Petrivsk was founded by Bulgarian settlers in 1828. It is located at the border with Moldova and has a population of 2,000, of whom 90% are Bulgarians.
