RSV 421 Crew Wishes Prof. Pimpirev Happy 70th Birthday

The crew of the Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) extended heart-warming wishes to the head of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

RSV 421 is close to approaching its final destination – the Bulgarian Antarctic base on Livingston Island, where it is expected to arrive late on Monday.

Members of the Bulgarian Antarctic expedition, journalists, RSV 421's crew, headed by Commanding Officer Nikolay Danailov, as well as Flotilla Admiral Prof. Boyan Mednikarov, Rector of the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna. They all said they're proud to be followers of Pimpirev's life dream and cause – to study Antarctica in search of a better future for mankind.

"Stay healthy and don't stop leading us! Save the energy from the gust of your ideas! Stay on course, so you can clear new paths on the plant and the universe!," were some of the wishes extended by those onboard the ship, which will arrive on Livingston Island on Pimpirev's birthday.

Prof. Hristo Pimpirev has been heading the Bulgarian expedition, which conducts scientific research in Antarctica. In addition to serving as the head of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute and the National Center for Polar Studies, Pimpirev teaches geology at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. He has lead 30 Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions so far, authored 11 books, 10 documentary films, a feature film and over 250 scientific publications. Prof. Pimpirev is among the 100 most renowned polar researchers in the world. A peak, a glacier and a shore in Antarctica bear his name.

BTA's Daily News editor Konstantin Karagyozov is the only member of the media who is travelling on board the ship to Livingston Island and back, and will cover the Bulgarian expedition on site throughout the stay in Antarctica.
