Delegates from Germany's Alfred Wegener Institute, including Felix Lauber, commander of the Polarstern polar research vessel, and Nicole Biebow, Chair of the European Polar Board, visited the Nikola Y. Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna on Thursday, said the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute. The delegation also comprised of representatives from the Bulgarian Antarctic Base and Research Vessel Consortium, hosted by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute.

Flotilla Admiral Boyan Mednikarov, Chief of the Naval Academy, presented the Academy's latest cadet training simulators along with the modern laboratories and equipment.

Officials observed a demonstration of specialized survival and fire safety training. The group also toured the Naval Academy's summer camp in the Karantinata area, where cadets undergo field training each summer.

The meeting featured a discussion, focusing on guidelines for joint research projects in the World Ocean involving RSV 421 and state-of-the-art instrumentation from Germany.
