Bulgarian acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov took part in an international conference on Restoring Justice organized by the Office of the President of Ukraine, which is part of the events that followed the Ukrainian initiated First Peace Formula Summit, said the Prosecution Service Friday. The event was held online.

This thematic conference was the third in a series planned as a continuation of the first Peace Summit. The first, dedicated to energy security, took place on August 22. The second, focused on food security, was held on September 4. The goal of these events is to develop a comprehensive peace plan initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Representatives of 60 countries and organizations, partners of Ukraine, participated in the discussion. Among the participants were the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin and the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Karim Khan.

A common view was expressed on the need to hold representatives of the Russian Federation, and especially its leadership, accountable for violations of international law committed in and against Ukraine, as well as human rights violations. The Russian state leadership should face consequences for its illegal actions, including by paying reparations for the damage caused by the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops.

Participants in the forum adopted a communiqué reaffirming their commitments to support efforts to prosecute and bring to justice the perpetrators of war crimes before the International Criminal Court. "All people around the world seek and demand justice, and the Ukrainian people have an unconditional right to justice and protection under the law," said Karim Khan, ICC Chief Prosecutor.
