Speaking at a meeting with GERB activists in Sofia on Monday, the party’s leader, Boyko Borissov said that he disagrees with the notion that the prime minister should be equally distant from all parties, dismissing it as a "formula of backstage politicians". Livestreamed on Facebook, the meeting was aimed at presenting highlights of GERB’s governance programme ahead of the October 27 snap parliamentary elections.
In Borissov's words, stability is achieved by leaders entering government. "The rest are floating majorities, which will only make us fight in parliament," he said.
"We made a stupid move with [the amendments to] the Constitution," Borissov added. "From now on, we will measure thrice before I allow anything to be cut once".
GERB wants peace, the party leader said. "Our ideology is peace, but we have to prepare for war. There will be a brand new, modern war," he added.
Security and stability imply stable finances, Borissov stressed. He said that GERB will not raise taxes.
Commenting on the detention of Dzheyan Ibryamov, MP of the 50th National Assembly, on suspicions of vote-buying, Borissov said: "There is a judiciary. Let them deal with it. This is not what our election campaign will be about. I do not want to shut doors, I want to keep them open".
