The prosecution service has initiated 28 pre-trial proceedings for crimes against the political rights of citizens after having received 31 alerts. The Ministry of the Interior has received 41 alerts for violation of electoral legislation and citizens' political rights, 29 of which for vote buying, as reported by Vania Stefanova of the Supreme Cassation Prosecution Office and head of the General Directorate National Police and acting Interior Ministry Secretary General Miroslav Rashkov during a briefing here on Friday.

At the briefing organized by the prosecution service, the Interior Ministry, the State Agency for National Security (SANS) and dedicated to the upcoming parliamentary elections, Rashkov reported that Varna, on the Black Sea, registered the highest number of alerts at 12, while the rest came from Veliko Tarnovo, Plovdiv, Sofia, Shumen, Dobrich, Pazardzhik, Yambol, Burgas, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Kardzhali, Pernik, Silistra, Smolyan and Haskovo.

Stefanova said that a total of 41 people were convicted of crimes related to the electoral process in 2021, another 56 were convicted in 2022, and 75 were convicted in 2023. Over the first half of 2024, 19 people got convictions.
