On International Day of Older Persons, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) vowed to stand up for their interests. "The BSP is the only political force in the last three decades for which the care for older persons and pensioners is a holy steadfast cause. We will continue our battle for the provision of higher incomes for pensioners through adequate and fair update of all pensions," BSP-United Left Coalition head Atanas Zafirov says in an address on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons.
In his words, today 406,000 Bulgarians receive a minimum pension for work experience and age to the amount of BGN 523.04, and another 407,000 pensioners get even less. In fact, over 800,000 older persons are forced to survive on money that cannot cover their basic needs, Zafirov noted.
According to him, it is socially fair for old and new pensioners to get the same pensions when they have one and the same years of work experience, type of job and workplace.
The Left commits to fight for the adoption of an Older Persons Protection Act, he added.
