The election campaign of the Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) Coalition was launched in Kyustendil on Saturday with a tree-planting ritual during the Festival of Fertility.
Georgi Stamov, who tops the Kyustendil list of CC-DB candidates for the elections, said the planting of trees symbolizes the coalition's pledge to take good care of the people. The event was also attended by CC party co-leader Assen Vassilev.
Stamov said: "When Assen Vassilev was minister of finance, we wanted the municipalities to receive resources so that their residents could feel positive change."
For his part, Vassilev said: "Our policy over the last three years has been aimed at achieving a balance of infrastructure investments while implementing them on the basis of objective criteria." In addition to investing in infrastructure, it is necessary to invest in the people, to boost their incomes, to invest in education and healthcare, he added.
Thanks to investments in the people, Bulgarian expatriates who returned to their home country last year outnumbered Bulgarians who left it by a record 46,000 people, the ex-finance minister said. "We strongly hope to be able to carry on with this policy after the elections," he added.
