NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg summarized the results of the NATO summit in Washington at a concluding press conference on Thursday.

Stoltenberg confirmed that Ukraine's future lies in the Alliance, as he said earlier on Thursday alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The two gave a joint press conference ahead of the NATO-Ukraine Council meeting on the sidelines of the Alliance's summit.

Stoltenberg listed the measures and policies NATO has taken to support the country attacked by Russia and reassured Ukraine once again of the Alliance's support.

The NATO Secretary General again expressed concern about the rapprochement between authoritarian states. He criticised the assistance of Iran, China and North Korea in Russia's war against Ukraine.

All NATO member countries are safer inside the Alliance than outside it, Stoltenberg summed up. He expressed confidence that this would remain the case in the future, despite concerns expressed by some allies over the possibility that Donald Trump, who is critical of NATO, could become US president again after the November elections.

Stoltenberg chaired a NATO summit for the last time. He will hand over the post to former Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte in early October.
