Bulgarian freestyle wrestler Alen Khubulov won the silver medal at 125 kg during a tournament in Vladikavkaz, Russia commemorating the Khadartsev brothers. In the final, the reigning European under-23 champion lost by fall to Shamil Musaev, who represented the host country.

At the start of the competition at 125 kg, Khubulov prevailed over Abdulla Kurbanov of Russia on a score of 1-1. Then, the Russian-born Bulgarian defeated Armenia's Lyova Gevorgyan 8-3, and in the semifinal he beat Greece's Azamat Khosonov 2-1.

Nearly 160 entrants from 23 countries competed in the tournament. It was part of Khubulov's training for the World Under-23 Championships in Tirana, which will begin on October 21.
