Bulgaria and China share a friendship and partnership that spans over 75 years, and beyond traditional areas of cooperation, both countries now have the opportunity to strengthen ties in new sectors, Economy and Industry Minister Peter Dilov said on Monday, as quoted by his ministry. He was speaking at the opening of a Bulgaria-China Business Forum in Sofia, organized by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).

The event at the InterContinental Sofia hotel was prepared with the support of the Ministry of Economy and Industry and the Embassy of China in Sofia. It was held in the framework of the 18th session of the Bulgaria-China Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation.

Dilov identified significant potential for collaboration between the two countries in the fields of green technologies, energy efficiency, tourism, logistics, and transport connectivity. He highlighted the strong interest shown by businesses in launching new joint projects that could unlock the full potential of bilateral trade and economic relations.

According to Dilov, Bulgaria’s trade with China reached nearly USD 4 billion in 2024. The volume of trade in the first half of 2025 stood at USD 2 billion, he said.

He further noted that Bulgaria maintains stable macroeconomic indicators. The country's GDP grew by 3.4% year-on-year in the second quarter and by 0.9% compared to the first quarter.

The Minister also emphasized Bulgaria’s progress in key areas of international integration, including its upcoming accession to the eurozone, its membership in the Schengen area, and its advanced stage of accession to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). These developments, he said, serve as proof of Bulgaria’s economic stability and predictability.

“In today’s complex international environment, cooperation is more important than ever,” Dilov concluded, reaffirming that the Ministry of Economy and Industry will continue to support the exchange of business delegations and the organization of new forums and initiatives.

The Chinese delegation includes representatives of such sectors as photovoltaic systems and energy storage, finance, electric vehicle production and component supply, agricultural product purchasing, e-commerce platform management, logistics, and the manufacture of household and electrical appliances, according to the BCCI.
