The total average quarterly income per household member was BGN 3,351 in the third quarter of 2024, up by 16.6% compared to a year earlier. The total average quarterly expenditure per household member in the third quarter was BGN 3,153, up by 16.2% compared to the same quarter of 2023, the National Statistical Institute said.

Wages and salaries accounted for the highest relative share of income, 54.6%, in the structure of the total income in the third quarter of 2024. The relative share of income from pensions was 30.3%, and from self-employment 7.9%. Compared to the third quarter of 2023, the relative share of income from self-employment increased by 1.6 percentage points (pp) and from wages and salaries rose by 0.2 pp. The share of income from pensions decreased by 0.6 pp. 

Food and non-alcoholic beverages accounted for the largest share of total expenditure (28.0%), followed by housing expenses (15.4%), taxes and social insurance contributions (13.3%), and transport and communication (11.0%).
